Welcome to A Quiet Heart! I am so glad you stopped by. Please, grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and let’s get to know each other.
My name is Veronica.
I am a sinner saved by grace. And, really, I could stop right there, because that’s all you need to know.
But, because of that undeserved grace, I am also a pastor’s wife, a homemaker, a mommy, and a homeschooler…
This blog is a glimpse into my ordinary and imperfect, but abundant life – in Christ.
About Me…
God greatly blessed me by allowing me to be born into a Christian family. Although my parents did not grow up in Christian homes, God saved them before I was born, and, they were committed to raising me, and my sister, according to biblical principles. I include this fact anytime I share my testimony, not because Christian parents have some magical power to make their children “Christian” by association, but because I think that the impact of their lives is an incredible testimony to the responsibility of parents in the spiritual instruction of their children.
Because I was raised in a Christian family, I was exposed to the truths of Scripture at an early age. Our family regularly attended, and was extensively involved in one local church throughout the majority of my childhood and teen years. What I was taught at home was reinforced at church, by my Sunday School teachers and Awana leaders. So, when Godgraciously drew me to Himself, even though I was quite young, it was not surprising (to me) that I should respond to His working.
As a young child, I repented of my sins and trusted Christ as my personal Savior. Yes, I had a child’s understanding of the gospel, but, I do believe my conversion to be genuine. I do not really remember what life was like prior to my salvation. And, I am so thankful that the Lord saw fit to save me at such an early age. I cannot imagine the sin and accompanying consequences that I have been spared as a result. I have been blessed with (almost) my entire lifetime to know, serve, and grow more in love with my Savior.
Because I write much on the value of home-education and discipleship, it may surprise you to know that I was not homeschooled. My elementary education was spent in our local public school system, and I attended a Christian school for junior high and high school. I also spent 15 years involved in the AWANA program at our church. As a result, the value and importance of Scripture memorization was ingrained in my thinking early.
I attended The Master’s College, where I earned my degree in Biblical Studies, with an emphasis in Christian Education. The Lord used this time at college to shape my worldview, to increase my passion for His Word, and to strengthen my desire to share His Truth with others.
And, although I was very much against the idea of earning my “MRS degree,” this is also where I met my husband…
And, today, I truly feel as though I am living a dream come true!
In this season and stage of life, my most important ministry is my family and my home. I am a wife and mom to my husband and my daughter first. I am a “pastor’s wife” second.
About My Family…
Jason:
We have different versions of exactly when it happened, but, the short version is: we met in college. We were married in 2001.
When we got married, we made a commitment before God and to each other, to be in it “for better, or for worse.” In other words, for life. And, so far, the better far outweighs the worse.
We are very different from each other…but we balance each other well:
He is easy-going…I am uptight. He sees the big picture…I focus on the details. He sees the glass as half full…I see it as half empty. He is a people person…I am more task-oriented. He is early-to-bed, I am a night owl.
We challenge each other, we sharpen each other, we encourage each other, and we learn from each other. And, despite the differences…or maybe because of them…I can honestly say that I am married to my best friend.
I am so thankful to be married to a man who loves the Lord far more than he loves me (which means he loves me very well!) He is a diligent student of God’s Word, and works hard to lead, support, and disciple his family.
He currently a pastor…but he understands that “ministry” does not start when he walks through the doors of the church. He is unwilling to sacrifice his family on the altar of ministry. Over the years, he has made it clear to me, and to our daughter, that we – his family – are his most important ministry.
I know I don’t deserve him…but I am so glad that he picked me! It is an incredible and undeserved privilege to share life and ministry with this man!
Hannah Elisabeth (6):
Together we have one precious daughter, Hannah Elisabeth.
Hannah is a sweet, joyful, energetic 6-year-old. She just wakes up (early!) in a good mood. She starts talking the moment her eyes open, and doesn’t stop until she falls asleep! She is all girl, and loves dresses, fairy tales, and all things sparkly and pink. She loves school, and her favorite subjects vary daily. But, her natural preference is decidedly more artistic than academic. If given the option, she would choose to be doing something (anything!) creative: writing a story, coloring, drawing, painting….
She is my constant companion, and loves to do whatever she can to help.
Until recently, she has held the status of “only child.” However, she is about to get a promotion to “big sister.”
Our Son:
After a miscarriage and 6 years of secondary infertility…
In God’s gracious sovereignty and perfect timing, a little boy is due to join our family on or around February 6th, 2012!
(Yes, he has a name… I’ll post it after he is born.)
I am humbled each day at the amazing privilege and responsibility that the Lord has given me in being a mommy. I am awed that He has entrusted us with these little lives to teach, train, care for, play with, comfort, pray for, and love.

I believe that God’s Word is absolutely sufficient for “all things that pertain to life and godliness.” (2 Peter 1:3-12) And, where I believe God’s Word to be clear, I write boldly, unapologetically, and with conviction. There are very few “gray areas” in my life.
It may appear to some as though I have it all “figured out.” But, rest assured, I don’t. I am still growing, still learning, and still resting in God’s grace for the unknown, and unknowable.
Yes, I do tend to be more serious and analytical…both in my writing, and in real life. But, believe it or not, I do occasionally like have a little fun too:
