Mommy’s Day Off

Who says moms don’t get a day off every now and then?!  Yesterday, Jason decided that I needed a break…Actually, he decided this quite a while ago, since it involved some planning to get the time off!  He spent the day with Hannah…watching cartoons, eating “dinner” (plastic food – and always dinner, regardless of the time of day!), playing outside, getting shots (she just got a doctor’s kit), coloring pictures, eating popsicles, and going swimming!

I, on the other hand, got to sleep in (or, more accurately, go back to sleep after waking up at 4:30 for no apparent reason!), spend time reading, run a few errands (alone!), and then spend the majority of the day with my sister, scrapbooking!  We had a good time together, and laughed about how our different approaches to this hobby were characteristic of our personalities.  My “creative process” is a bit of an ordeal, as I take my sweet time and analyze each picture, and choose just the right papers, stickers, layout.  My sister is the exact opposite.  She grabs a handful of pictures, some colorful, patterned paper, and stickers, and goes to town…and ends up with a great-looking page, in half the time!  In the time it took her to finish 4 pages, I wasn’t even close to finishing one!  But, by the end of the day, I was quite proud of myself for (almost) completing 5 pages.  I still have to add some details – journaling and dates – but…when you consider the fact that Hannah is 2½, and I was just scrapping her birth (yes, I’m that behind!) and first bath, I’ll consider anything an accomplishment at this point! :)

Looking through my piles of pictures yesterday, I was reminded once again of just how quickly time passes.  I want to treasure every moment I have with my little girl!  I enjoy playing blocks and play-doh, and “cooking” plastic food, and reading stories…But, more than that, I love seeing my daughter grow and learn.  And, she seems to be doing both so quickly that it is hard to keep up!  I am so thankful to have a husband who understands how important it is, and makes it possible for me to be at home with our daughter…but he also understands that I could use a break every once in a while too.  I love my “job” as a mom, and, although it was nice to have a “day off” yesterday, I am very much looking forward to being back at “work” today!
