Hannah Elisabeth, Life, Mommyhood

Potty Time

P4300268.JPGThis past week (and probably much of the week to come) has been spent in “hard-core” potty training.  Things are going well.  For the past several months I have been able to say that Hannah is mostly potty-trained.  Meaning, she can tell me when she needs to go (#1), and keeps her pants dry all day (usually including naps, and sometimes even overnight!).  However, keeping them “clean” is another story…

She is learning to recognize the signs of needing to go (#2), rather than telling me about it after the fact (which is what she has been doing!).  However, this learning process has resulted in more than a few drop-everything-and-run episodes (several of which have ended with me cleaning poo off the floor!), and even composing a little song about going poo-poo in the potty. (One more thing to add to my “You know you’re a mommy when…” list!!)

Although, it really is going well (I have to remind myself!), there have been a few frustrating moments…for both of us.  Hannah has not been thrilled with being “forced” to stay on the potty against that iron will of hers.  (It takes her about 2 seconds to decide she has better things to do!)  And, I have not been too happy with her outright refusal to use the potty…This girl can hold it in all day, and no sooner do we the the naptime/bedtime pull-up on, and it’s dirty!

So, I needed to take a break from the intensity, and frustration, and think of some good (non-potty-training related) moments from the last few days…So, for your (and my) amusement, here are a couple of new Hannah-isms! :)

“Sloffy” – This is a true Hannah-ism, being that it is a word of Hannah’s own creation…It is pronounced like “sloppy.”  It seems to be a hybrid of “soft” and “fluffy.”  Apparently, it is high praise…as I am often told that her beloved duckie (and a few other items) have been given this designation.  I have no idea what it really means, but, it’s cute.

“I do it myself!“ – Yes, we have entered “that” phase.  Because this is new, I still think it is cute.  (Check back with me in a few weeks…)  She likes to do most things without help - climbing into her carseat, getting dressed, putting on her shoes, getting on the potty – and does most of them pretty well!

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star – I’m sure everyone has, at one point in time, found themselves singing along with a song on the radio – but, with the wrong words!  (There is a whole website about that somewhere…)  I thought that Hannah’s rendition of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” was quite funny, so I thought I would share…

Twinkle, twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are
I fall down, so really high
Like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle, twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are.

Cute, huh? :)   Well, I laughed…

Okay, time for another day of potty-training…
